Stolen N2m Hospital Equipment Sold For N5,000

Equipment worth N2million which were stolen from the Malumfashi General Hospital in Katsina State have been reportedly sold for N5,000 by a suspect who took his sick wife to the facility for treatment. The spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Isah Gambo, who paraded the suspect, Hamza Sani, and four others accused of stealing and selling the equipment, said they were nabbed when nemesis caught up with the 30-year-old thief.

Gambo said that the command smashed the syndicate which specialised in the theft of hospital equipment around 6am on April 13, 2019 with the arrest of Hamza Sani of Yar’Talata village in Kafur local government area of the state at the Malumfashi General Hospital in possession of the stolen equipment.

He said: “In the course of our investigation, the suspect confessed to various related crimes in the hospital and mentioned the following suspects as his cohorts: Kamala Aliyu, 33, of Unguwar Muazu Quarters, Kaduna State; Magaji Yusuf, 36, of Kankara local government area, Katsina State; Saidu Shehu, 40, of Kankara; and Emmanuel Ukelere, 48, of Tudun Wada Quarters, Kaduna State. In the course of the investigation, one microscope valued at N1.4 million and a Colorimeter worth N600, 000 were recovered from their possession and investigation is on-going,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested six suspects over trafficking of 24 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis sativa) in Katsina. The police spokesman said that the command smashed syndicate around 11am on April 11, 2019, based on a tip-off and reiterated the resolve of the police to stop the nefarious activities of criminals in the state.
