Striker who scored in UCL this week confirms he rejected ‘Crazy’ West Brom transfer offer

Africa Press-Nigeria:

Club Brugge and Nigeria forward Emmanuel Dennis has revealed that he rejected a move to West Brom in the transfer window.

Slaven Bilic and Luke Dowling searched high and low for a new centre-forward after winning promotion to the Premier League and eventually ended up signing Karlan Grant from Huddersfield on deadline day last week.

Dennis, 22, has now confirmed that an offer was tabled for him by the Baggies.

Although the money on offer was good, the Nigeria international has revealed he turned down a move to The Hawthorns because he wasn’t that interested in leaving Brugge and if he was, he wasn’t interested in a loan-to-buy deal.

“Wages were not the problem – the wages were crazy,” said Dennis, as quoted by the Express & Star. “And I have also played enough international matches (to obtain a work permit).

“The problem was that it was a loan and with the (option to buy) clause in the contract.

“I want to prove myself in England. Maybe you play five matches at West Brom and another club will come and get you.

“But honestly, I didn’t really care. I wasn’t pushing for a transfer.

“I had an attitude of ‘If they buy me, then I go. If they don’t buy me, I’ll stay and go elsewhere later.

“West Brom was a good deal. If they stayed in the Premier League, they would have bought me.

“Then I would have been playing in the Premier League for at least two years.

“But if they dropped again, another team could still have picked me up.”
