Africa Press-Nigeria:
It is all but confirmed that Heracles Almelo marksman Cyriel Dessers will enter the history books as the first Nigerian footballer to win the Eredivisie top scorer award, a feat not managed by the likes of former Ajax Amsterdam stars Nwankwo Kanu and Tijani Babangida, ex-Feyenoord striker Mike Obiku and ex-Cambuur goal poacher Bartholomew Ogbeche, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
On Tuesday, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the suspension of all sporting activities in the country until September 1, meaning the Eredivisie is unlikely to be concluded.
And if that is the case, Dessers will end up being the joint top scorer in the division along with Feyenoord’s Steven Berghuis.
The 25-year-old has notched up 15 goals in 26 league appearances for Heracles Almelo and only one of his goals came from the penalty spot.
Since Dessers made his debut in the Eredvisie, he has netted 27 goals, making him the third highest scoring Nigerian in Eredivisie history behind Babangida (46 goals) and Ogbeche (36 goals).
He finished as the third best scorer in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with 22 goals during the 2016-2017 regular season.
