Africa-Press – Nigeria. Two hunters have been killed after suspected armed bandits attacked a group in a forest in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst Makama.
According to the post, the attack happened around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday inside the Kadidda Forest.
“The hunters had gone into the forest for what was described as a hunting exhibition when they were ambushed by the attackers,” Makama wrote.
The bandits were said to be many in number and armed with sophisticated weapons. Two of the hunters were shot at close range and died on the spot, while others managed to escape and later reported the incident to the Tangaza Divisional Police Headquarters.
One of the victims was identified as Nura Usman, 30, from Magonho Village. The identity of the second victim has not yet been confirmed.
Security sources said troops from a nearby Army Forward Operating Base, alongside other security agencies, were mobilised to the area after the attack. However, the assailants had already fled before the security teams arrived.
The bodies of the deceased hunters were evacuated and taken to a hospital in Tangaza.
Security forces have since intensified patrols and launched a manhunt across the forest and surrounding communities to track down the attackers.
