Africa-Press – Nigeria. Leaders of opposition political parties in Kaduna State have come together to end what they call the era of godfather politics and imposition of candidates.
They said their aim is to remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
At a press briefing on Monday in Kaduna, the opposition coalition made up of members from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former APC members said they would work together to form a strong political group.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Malam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), said, “The era of godfatherism and imposition is over. We are determined to ensure that no single leader hijacks ADC structures in Kaduna. All stakeholders will have equal say, and majority decisions will be respected.”
He added that leaders must no longer use political parties for selfish purposes or to serve personal interests.
According to him, the coalition has adopted the ADC as its political platform and will begin mass registration and consultation in all 23 local governments and 255 wards of the state.
Lukman explained that their goal is to build a party that truly belongs to the people.
“Work is already going on to make sure the ADC does not become another business-as-usual project reduced to errand boys and surrogates of ambitious politicians,” he said.
He said the coalition draws its strength from the national plan of opposition parties to unite and present one candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
“Applying that to Kaduna means we must unite to remove the APC and Governor Uba Sani. No one can do it alone,” he said.
The coalition leaders also promised that the ADC in Kaduna would not be controlled by any godfather. Instead, all members would be treated equally, and decisions would be made democratically.
The briefing was attended by top opposition figures such as Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr John Ayuba, Senator Musa Bello, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, who all signed the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting.
