Africa-Press – Nigeria. ZIMBABWE is a ready and reliable partner to India and is strategically located to provide access to over 300 million consumers, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has said.

Addressing delegates at the 20th India-Africa Business Conclave, Chiwenga said Zimbabwe offered vast opportunities in various sectors, including agriculture.

“Zimbabwe stands here today, as a ready and reliable partner,” he said.

“We are strategically positioned at the heart of southern Africa, providing access to a market of over 300 million consumers through the Southern African Development Community and 640 million under the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as duty-free trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area.”

Chiwenga said Zimbabwe sought to achieve middle-income economic status by 2030.

“Our strategic reforms — including modern investment laws, special economic zones and a one-stop investment service — make Zimbabwe one of the most competitive destinations of choice in Africa today,” he said.

“Zimbabwe is open for business — not for extraction, but for value creation, joint ventures, partnerships and shared growth.

“As we engage at this conclave, let us remember that the strongest partnerships are not built on what one party can take from the other, but on what both can create together for the mutual economic benefit of their citizens.”

He said Indian investors could tap into opportunities in mining, agriculture and food processing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, ICT and infrastructural development.

“Africa is ready. Together with India, we can write the next great chapter of south-south co-operation, demonstrating to the world that partnerships among developing nations can drive innovation, build industries and create a more equitable global economy.”

India launched the India-Africa Conclave on Partnership in 2005.

Since its inception, the conclave has evolved to one of the most prominent platforms facilitating dialogue and collaboration among senior ministers, policymakers and business leaders from Africa and India.
