Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Pedro Obi, has appealed to the management of tertiary institutions across the country to take advantage of the disbursement of N683,429,268 intervention funds by President Bola Tinubu to ensure a reduction in the skyrocketing tuition fees in public institutions.

The President of NANS said this while appreciating Tinubu for the approval of the intervention fund on Friday.

Obi, who spoke through a statement he signed, described the disbursement of N683,429,268 in intervention funds to public tertiary institutions in the country as a significant milestone in the development of the educational system in Nigeria.

In his appeal to the institutions’ management, Pedro asked that the funds be judiciously spent.

“This intervention helps to reduce the increment and hike in school fees experienced by students in tertiary institutions. It is our firm belief that education should be affordable and accessible to all, and the prudent utilisation of these funds will contribute to achieving this goal.

“NANS remains committed to collaborating with the government and all relevant stakeholders to address the challenges facing the Nigerian educational system. We are confident that with continued support and investment in the sector, we can create an enabling environment for students to thrive academically and become productive members of society.

“Once again, we express our deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to the advancement of education in Nigeria. We call on all students to remain focused, dedicated, and utilise the opportunities provided by this intervention fund for their educational and personal growth,” he stated.

He added that the apex student body recognises the immense dedication and commitment of the President towards improving the quality of education in Nigeria.

He said: “The approval of these intervention funds demonstrates the government’s unwavering support for public tertiary institutions, and it is a clear indication of President Tinubu’s recognition of the pivotal role that education plays in shaping the future of our nation.”
