Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mbaitoli Police Division, Daniel Wetben has brokered peace between the people of Amulu- Ihitte Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA Imo State and Fulani cattle rearers operating in the area.

The DPO while addressing the two parties said the move became necessary following series of complaints from the farmers, mostly women who always cry to his office over destruction of their farm crops by Fulani herders.

He observed that the clash between the farmers and Fulani Herdsmen is becoming worrisome and unbearable, hence the need for peace to exist.

The Divisional officer of the area, advised that a cordial relationship should exist between the two parties and charged the cattle herders to respect areas where there are farm crops.

During the meeting, the chairman of Mayetti Allah, Imo State chapter Muhammad Shuaibu assured that the cattle herders would henceforth carry out their operation peacefully in the community.

He equally assured of paying compensation to the farmers whose crops were destroyed by the activities of cattle herders.

Speaking, the President General of the Community, Austin Egejuru, said that his men had on several occasions gone on rescue missions to save farm crops from destruction by cattle herders grazing in the area.

He pointed out that from the time the cattle herders came to their place the community welcomed them wholeheartedly to the extent of giving them where to stay and carry out their cattle business.

The PG regretted that after that period, the cattle rearers changed and started destroying and uprooting their farm crops.

He said that given the sudden development, women and other farmers became afraid of going to their farms to avoid being attacked.

Egejuru, however, expressed optimism that with the intervention of the DPO and the assurance given by the leadership of the herdsmen there will be peace between the farmers and herders.
