Africa-Press – Nigeria. As 2023 Presidential election is fast approaching in Nigeria ,Nigerians need to be more conscious of who to vote as the Next president considering the economic and security challenges affecting the country.

Sentiments played vital role when it comes presidential elections in the past , but all such with out meaningful result in terms of solving the basic problems faced by a country with largest population in Africa.

February 2023 presidential election is expected to be a game changer as Nigerians suffered more than ever ,as inflation reached it’s peak ,insecurity took a new dimension and inability of Government to end fuel scarcity which created serious havoc to micro and small businesses which serve as the country’s economic bed rock.

2023 election and choice of new President

Statistics show that more than 60% of Nigerians are youths as the country is heading to be the third most populous nation after China and India by 2050 according United Nations projection.

Against this backdrop Nigeria need a capable leader that can provide all the basic necessities for the growing population.

Dr. Usman Bugaje who is a Historian and former Political adviser to Ex Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar says that what Nigeria need as next President is a complete states Man regardless of his Political Party, religion or geo political zone.

He stated this when featuring on channels TV programme ” Politicsc Today” aired on first January 2023.

Bugaje added that there is a need for leader with foresight that can handle the economy ,security ,Manage the health ,education and infrastructural development of the country.

The historian call on Nigerians to scrutinise the candidates eying for the presidential seat in 2023 election to pick the one with the ability to cater for the present challenges and build the future of Nigeria for the growing population to be productive.

He also suggest that the next president should be some one with intention to restructure the Civil Service to meet the modern train as the engine room for implementing Government policies and programmes .

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi is the former Nigeria’s Minister Foreign Affairs who also featured at the channels TV Programme,shares the Opinion of Dr. Bugaji on the qualities of Presidential Candidate that Nigerians should consider before voting in the next election.

The former Minister urged Nigerians to vote for credible leaders at all level to balance the leadership deficit.

He said strong leaders with vision is what Nigerian system need for it to be fixed. For 2023 election to be a bridge between the negative and Positive change.

Prof. Moses T. Aluaigba is a Research Professor at Mambayya House, Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria

He said Nigerians should llook for a Candidate with Integrity who has demonstrated element of transparency ,accountability in his past endeavors as must of the candidates occupies one political officer or the other in the past .

“The questions Nigerians should ask are how the candidate performed in the previous office weather as a Governor, Vice President or as Minister, how he performed with regard to managing public funds ?

“It is very clear for Nigerians to detect the level of integrity of any candidate through check mating the past of the candidate and his sources of wealth can also be identified.” The professor said The answers of these questions can help in determining the kind of person to chose in the next election as it is very important for Nigerians to go for candidate that has integrity as Nigerian problem is attributed to lack of accountability and transparency by public office holders because of the way they manage public resource is what put Nigeria in to Present economic situation.

The professor reiterated that the countries that make progress interns of developing their infrastructure and human resource that pave way for advancement have never put sentiments before them in determining whose rule them.

But for Nigeria since 1999 voting of candidates were base on religious ,ethnic ,and regional line among other sentiments , but the practice didn’t yield good result of moving the country from bad to good condition .

The Political scientist charge Nigerians to reverse the situation by voting a candidate that has all it takes to move the country out the present Condition.

Professor Moses Aluaigba hope that Nigerians will learn from the past experiences to avoid voting along sentiment line as Politicians are in the habit of divide and rule and coursings misunderstanding among Nigerians when ever it is election period.
