Africa-Press-Nigeria . The Major Story trending in both Electronic,Print and Online news Platforms in Nigeria at the beggining of this Week is the Historic Ceremonial launch of Digital Currency ” eNaira” by Nigeria’s Apex Bank .(E-Naira).
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday unveiled the e-Naira.
Buhari launched the country’s digital currency at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event had in attendance the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele; Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; among others.
It could be recalled that the digital currency was billed to be unveiled on October First but was shifted due to activities on Independence Day.
During the Ceremony the CBN Governor Emefele said the e-Naira is a culmination of several years of research work in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier.
CBN noted that the Introduction of the digital currency is a major step forward in the evolution of money.
The bank vowed to ensure that the e-Naira, like the physical Naira, is accessible for everyone
500 million eNaira has been minted
The Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, also reveals that 500 million eNaira ($1.21 million) has already been minted.
Some Nigerians expressed divergent views with regard to the Introduction of the digital currency .
Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam who is popularly known as MK Adam is a Nigerian Blockchain Technology Promoter and Cryptocurrencies Investor described the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Initiative as well come development, Nigeria being the first African Country to start digital Currency.

MK Adam added that the eNaira will help Federal Government in saving huge amount spend in Printing Paper Money.
The blockchain Technology Promoter said if Government want the eNaira to be more acceptable incentives Should be provided.
On his part Ibrahim Garba Maryam who is Human Right activist and advocacy expert said the Introduction of E- Currency by Nigeian Government is a miss priority considering the harsh economic condition majority of Nigerians are facing.

Garba Maryam lamented that Majority of Nigeria’s citizens can not afford to eat talkless of saving Money in the banks which will enable them use the newly Introduced eNaira
The activists added that
the present administration of Nigeria lack good and stable Ecomonic policies and programmes that can champion its development.
