Africa-Press – Nigeria. The issue of succession in Nigeria is not a new Phenomenon as organizations from different regions of the country have been agitating for it.
Since 1967 Igbo’s were making move to established Independent State of Biafara under late chief Odumegu Ojuku which led to Nigerian civil war from 1967 to 1970. As a result of that war Nigeria lost thousands of its citizens and economic fortunes.
The recent agitations are from Igbo’s through Indigenous People of Biafara under the its leader Nmdi Kanu who is now in detention and facing treassing charges in Nigerian Court.
Another move of the same nature is of Yoruba extraction under the leadership of Sunday Igboho.
At different Point people of Northern Nigeria stick to one Nigeria despite several agitations from different quoters
It is like the Northerners are pushed to the wall as leadership of Arewa Elders Forum begins to talk about the need of allowing the regions interested in the succession to succeed with out fighting or war.
Hakeem Baba Ahmad who is the Spoke Person of the Forum has recent reported by Many Nigerian News Papers and electronic Media saying is time to allow who ever want to succeed from Nigerian Federation to go either Igbo ,Yaroba or Northerners.
Against this statement some analyst particularly Foreign media are saying there is Possibility of Northern Nigeria to succeed from Nigerian Federation.
On the Arewa Elders Forum statement which Nigeria Government condemned through Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media Garba Shehu said Baba Ahmad is quoted saying.
The forum expressed its belief in the rights of all Nigerians to live in peace and aspire to their dreams. It noted that it also believed in the unity and desirability of a united and strong Nigeria, which would meet the aspirations of all citizens.
NEF added, “When the forum made comments in the past about the challenges to our union, security or governance, it always did so openly and in a responsible manner.
“It is baffling to see this unfair attribution from the presidency, at a time when calm nerves are needed, and statesmanship should be on display.”
Tukur Mutari who is a Veteran Journalist with vast experience in Nigeria said if succession of Northern Nigeria from the Federation will bring development let it happen.
The Journalist recall that Northern region was Independent during early years of Colonial administration before the 1914 amalgamation.
He said the region was doing very well economically even after the amalgamation as it heavenly rely on Agriculture.
Tukur added that with the current crop of leaders North have no one will pray for the succession as they failed in all aspect of basic necessity Provisions ranging from security , education ,health and Infrastructure.
He cited example with neglecting University education by allowing ASUU to be on strike for a long period with out addressing it.
Mutari also talk about ICT as the leading sector world wide today.
He said a Governor of Northern State Jigawa Ibrahim Saminu Turaki started the digitization of the rural State but after his tenure the project was neglected which if maintain to this time it would have being independent economically.
Baban Gida Lamido is the former Vice President Kano Chamber of Commerce Industries Mines and Agriculture.
Babangida expressed optimism that Northern Nigeria has all it takes to be an Independent Nation.
“Look at the natural resources northern Nigeria is endured with ,for instance huge reserve of gold in zamfara and Sokoto State axis.”
He added that there is enough natural gas reserve in Sambisa Forest and fertile land in all parts of Northern Region.
Lamido stated that River Chad alone can sustain the North if optimally utilised.
The Business Man share the view of Tukur Mutari on the main challenge of the Northern Nigeria either as an Independent Nation or as part of Nigerian Federation Unit which they described as unpatriotic leaders that give priority to their life and that of their immediate Family.
