Africa-Press – Nigeria. Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Progressive Group has said it will gladly welcome Governor Peter Mbah into the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Leader of the group, and immediate past Chairman of APC in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye said they would gladly welcome Governor Mbah of the Peoples Democrat Party, PDP, if he decides to join the ruling party.
Nwoye dismissed claims that Barr Ugocukwu Agballa and the minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, could block Governor Mbah’s entry into the party.
According to him, the Progressive Group is made up of members of APC in Enugu State, some apolitical individuals and members of other political parties who are progressive-minded and committed to the betterment of the country and Enugu State in particular.
He said the group was highly disposed to welcoming Governor Mbah into the APC, stressing that Agballa and co do not have the powers to stop the governor from joining the party if he so wished.
Nwoye added that, “Agbala has been suspended by his ward, and a court order has barred him and nine others from parading themselves as chairman and members of the APC
“The minister is equally not in a position to speak for the APC; he’s just a member of the Federal Executive Council, FEC,” Nwoye stated.
Our Correspondent reports that the group had during the meeting moved a motion for the adoption of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah as their sole candidates for the 2027 election.
One of the motions we passed was to receive Governor Mbah into the APC if he decides to join and to support his re-election bid in 2027.
Nwoye said Enugu State had benefitted from the Tinubu-led federal government.
“The president has made impactful use of subsidy savings in Enugu State.
“He recently approved the Federal University of Agriculture for the state and earlier appointed an Enugu son as Chief of Naval Staff, approved a naval base in Enugu State.
“So, we will reciprocate by supporting his re-election in 2027”. Nwoye declared.
On the governor, he said: “We are aware of the speculation that Governor Mbah may join the APC, and contrary to rumours, neither Agbala nor Nnaji can stop him.”
The meeting was attended by chieftains of the APC from the 260 political wards of the state, as well as other political stakeholders.
