Africa-Press – Nigeria. Prince Joe Okojie, a former Commissioner and Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for the upcoming National Assembly by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District, scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Okojie secured the party’s ticket following a keenly contested primary held on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Other aspirants who vied for the senatorial nomination included John Yakubu, a former Chairman of Esan North-East Local Government Council, and Friday Itulah, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Esan South-East/Esan North-East Federal Constituency.

In a related development, the PDP has also named Johnny Aikpitanyi as its unopposed candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives by-election. Aikpitanyi was the only aspirant screened and cleared during the exercise conducted at the PDP State Secretariat in Benin City.

A statement issued by Chris Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo State, confirmed the successful conclusion of the screening and primary processes in both constituencies.
