Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Osun State Government has cautioned the Nigerian Police against accepting vehicles from local government chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The government said the individuals currently administering council areas lack a valid mandate to remain in office.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in Osogbo, on Friday.
Alimi described the proposed donation of security vehicles as a “poisoned gift with malicious, mischievous, and harmful intentions.”
He urged the police to reject the offer in order to safeguard the integrity and reputation of the force.
The warning followed an earlier announcement by the APC that its local government chairmen would donate operational vehicles to support policing and enhance security.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party criticised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The APC maintained that protection of lives and property should take precedence over political considerations.
It argued that providing logistical support to security agencies should not be politicised, insisting such assistance is necessary to combat crime effectively.
However, the Osun State Government rejected the position, accusing the party of politicising security matters.
“The so-called APC council executives, who have imposed themselves on the local governments without any legal basis, should not be seen as legitimate authorities providing support to security agencies,” the statement read.
The government added that the tenure of the chairmen remains subject to ongoing litigation, with court judgments expected on May 12 and May 21, 2026.
It urged the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, to intervene and direct officers in the state command to reject the vehicles pending the outcome of the cases.
