Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state of colluding with the Nigerian Police over events that followed the resumption of duties by members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE on Monday.
In a press statement signed by its chairman, Sunday Bisi, on Wednesday, the PDP criticised the APC’s defence of the police.
Bisi also alleged that the APC stand amounted to justification of unprofessional conduct during the incident at local government councils in the state.
The PDP alleged that the APC’s position confirmed “a collusion against the people of Osun State, the opposition party was attempting to sustain an illegal occupation of local government councils by officials earlier removed by court judgements.”
According to Bisi, the APC had resorted to “brazen falsehood to justify its continued presence in the councils. Such actions posed a threat to democratic governance in the state.”
He said the claim of a court-ordered reinstatement of APC-backed officials was an invention.
Bisi challenged the APC to provide evidence for its claims.
“Contrary to the recycled lies by the APC, no court ordered the reinstatement of the YES or NO officials.
“If the APC believeas otherwise, we challenge them to point out the section of the judgement that categorically ordered the reinstatement of the court-sacked YES or NO officials for the entire world to see,” he said.
Referencing a Federal High Court judgement in suit number FHC/OS/CS/103/2022, the Osun PDP chairman said that the sack of the APC elected officials was affirmed by the Court of Appeal on January 13, 2025, in appeal number CA/AK/226M/2024.
He stated that an attempt by the APC to relist the appeal was dismissed on June 13, 2025, and that the appellate court also affirmed the February 22, 2025 local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC.
Describing a separate suit filed by the APC as untenable, Bisi said, “The suit FHC/OS/CS/147/2025 is a complete waste of time because the local governments election of February 22, 2025 was held in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 and a valid court order.”
The PDP reiterated its intention to pursue legal means to challenge the actions of the APC and its alleged collaborators, including the police.
He assured that the party would continue to “defend the mandate of the Osun people and ensure that those acting illegally are held accountable.”
Earlier on Monday, the PDP chairman had accused the Nigeria Police of enabling a breakdown of law and order even as local government workers resumed for work on Monday.
Bisi, called on Nigerians and the international community to hold the Nigeria Police responsible for the illegal takeover of council secretariats by individuals without lawful authority.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Osun APC in a press conference on Monday accused the state government of deliberately inducing legal crises to undermine elected local government officials.
This is as the party urged the National Judicial Council, NJC, to intervene urgently in the matter.
The Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, said the controversy stemmed from a Court of Appeal judgment of February 10, 2025 which nullified an earlier decision that had removed APC elected chairmen and councillors across the state.
Lawal who stated that the appellate judgment was never appealed by the state government, yet it was allegedly ignored, added that the reinstated chairmen and councillors resumed duties on February 17, 2025 in line with the ruling.
Also, the Osun State Police Command through a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan warned against breakdown of law and order in the local government secretariats.
The warning came after the Police revealed that they had intelligence that some individuals were planning to orchestrate violence in the local government areas.
NULGE, on Monday, December 29, 2025 announced that its members, local government workers would resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The announcement to resume work at the local government secretariats came after local government workers under the aegis of NULGE embarked on an eleven month strike from February 17, 2025.
