Trial of Osun APC splinter group adjourned till October

Africa-PressNigeria. The trial involving the leaders of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a group within the Osun Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been adjourned till 22nd October 2021.

Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara adjourned the case on Friday at the Osun State High Court.

At the trial, the Defence counsel, Gbenga Awosode had reminded the court that the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola had directed that the case be discontinued which the Police Prosecutor, John Idoko maintained that he was not aware of any move in that direction.

On revealing that he has no directive to discontinue prosecution, Awosode prayed the Court to direct the Prosecutor to furnish the Defence Counsel with proof of evidence for the prosecution of the case.

Magistrate Ayilara granted the prayer and ordered the police to furnish the Defence Counsels with proof of evidence.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of TOP, Adelowo Adebiyi has revealed that the trial has shown the clear path in which the APC led state government had taken adding that the action is contradictory to the false reconciliation story being peddled to gain undue public sympathy.

While expressing gratitude to supporters of the group who thronged the court in their numbers, the former APC chairman in the state said The Osun Progressives is interested in the prosecution of the case to absolve itself of the plans of the Adegboyega Oyetola administration to criminalise some of its members.

In his words, “The case will also serve the opportunity of showing the world who actually is trying to shore up APC’s image and strength for greater attainment as against those with selfish intentions who careless whether APC drowns or floats.

“The large presence of APC members at today’s court proceedings indicate that truly, progressive-minded party members are really ready for the reworking of our present progressives platform which is being gradually hijacked by carpetbaggers who came from the conservative wing of the Nigerian politics.”
