Africa-Press – Nigeria. Eminent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have demanded that the party retain its 2021 convention’s zoning arrangements.
This was as they insisted that the position of the National Chairman must remain in the North Central.
The leaders loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, met in Abuja on Monday night under the auspices of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.
They called for the conduct of a fresh South-East Zonal Congress, congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, as well as a local government congress in Ekiti State.
They also demanded that the outcome of the South-South Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State, on February 22, 2025, and recognised by the court, be respected.
These demands were contained in a communique of the meeting and were read by former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom.
In the communique, the leaders said members of the party would be disenfranchised and the National Convention invalid if these demands are not met.
Among those present at the meeting were Wike; PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; former Governors of Abia, Benue, Ekiti, and Enugu States, Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, Ayo Fayose, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Also at the meeting were the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda; Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule.
Others present included serving and former members of the National Assembly; North Central and South-South National Vice Chairmen, Abdulrahman Mohammed and Dan Orbih; as well as Abia, Benue, FCT, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States PDP Chairmen, among others.
