Abia Govt extends ban on substandard schools

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Abia State Ministry of Education, Umuahia, has directed schools in the state to resume on Monday, next week, for the 2023/2024 third term academic session.

A statement signed by Mr Ikechuckwu Oriuwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, directed teachers in the state to resume at their duty posts as strict monitorings would be carried out to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The statement enjoined parents to release their children and wards.

However, the Ministry made it clear that schools that were sealed in the state for failing standard tests would remain sealed as they are not permitted to resume.

The Abia State Government had in November 2023 sealed 197 private schools for not meeting the required minimum standard requirements.
