Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has maintained that the deployment of youths across the country for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, stands as a deliberate effort to foster mutual understanding and national cohesion among Nigeria’s diverse people.
Governor Adeleke also revealed that the impact of the NYSC scheme continues to be visible in various sectors of the nation’s economy and communities.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olagunju, Governor Adeleke made this known during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch C orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Friday.
He described the NYSC as a platform that has consistently promoted national unity, youth development, and integration.
Adeleke told the gathering, “Your deployment across the country is a deliberate effort to foster mutual understanding and national cohesion. I urge you to embrace this opportunity with open hearts and to see yourselves as ambassadors of a united Nigeria.”
The governor commended the NYSC management for its “role in skills acquisition, community development, and moral reorientation. The scheme’s contributions continue to be visible in various sectors of our economy and communities.”
He assured that Osun State would continue providing a safe and conducive environment for corps members and urged the corps members to be disciplined, responsible, and patriotic in all conduct throughout the service year.
Adeleke reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC, noting that the orientation camp would remain secure, adequately equipped, and conducive for training.
He also pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies to safeguard corps members during their stay.
The governor urged the corps members to “avoid distractions, maintain integrity, and respect host communities. I also want to remind you that the NYSC uniform represents honour and national pride. I encourage you to wear it with dignity and purpose”.
In his remarks, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued support.
He announced that 1,873 prospective corps members had registered so far for the Batch C course, comprising 828 males and 1,045 females, alongside 1,331 corps members comprising 549 males and 782 females dislodged from Lagos State.
Obim, who emphasised the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity, explained that deploying young people across different states fosters cultural appreciation and tolerance.
While urging corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme, he reminded them of the need for discipline and strict compliance with camp rules, stating that their behaviour would determine the level of trust the nation can place in them.
“The security and welfare of all corps members are top priorities. I advise corps members to maintain security awareness beyond the camp and avoid unnecessary travel.
“You are also cautioned to use social media responsibly. You are also warned against spreading false or harmful information. I urge you to use your platforms to promote peace and showcase your projects rather than seeking attention through negative publicity,” he added.
