Aisha Yesufu: Senate Should Kill Us If It Wants

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has vowed to stand by the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as she insists on resuming her duties on Tuesday at the Senate, despite opposition from the upper chamber.

Yesufu made this vow on Monday, when she appeared as a guest on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television

She stated that she and others would accompany Natasha to the National Assembly, saying that the suspended senator had every right to resume office following a court judgement.

“I think Senator Natasha has every right to resume office, and by tomorrow, she is not going to resume alone. There are people who are going to go with her, and I’ll be one of them.

“We’ll be with her and stand with her. And if the Senate decides they are going to kill us, let them kill us,” she said.

The activist faulted what she described as systemic discrimination against women in Nigerian politics.

She described Natasha’s suspension as unconstitutional, condemning the Senate for disregarding a valid court ruling.

“There was a ruling telling them to halt the suspension process, but they didn’t obey. The Senate is sending a message to Nigerians that it can act with impunity and disregard court rulings.

Natasha had vowed to resume her duties in the Senate on Tuesday.

The Senate, on the other hand, had issued a stern warning to Natasha to stay away from its proceedings, saying she could not resume proceedings yet
