Akwa Ibom at 38: Politics with a Human Face

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has again appealed to party chieftains in the state and other stakeholders to eschew rancour and play politics with a human face.

He urged them to understand that after politics, they still have Akwa Ibom to live in.

Eno, who made the appeal during a special banquet to mark the 38th anniversary of the state’s creation, said Akwa Ibom has metamorphosed from a seemingly obscure area to a destination of choice, attributing the giant strides to the consistent contributions of past leaders.

The governor also pledged determination to ensure that APC, PDP, and other opposition parties in the state work together for a united Akwa Ibom.

“We would continue to do our very best to unite our state in spite of our political differences. Let politics be played with a human face and let us know that after politics, we would all return as Akwa Ibomites,” he said.

While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts at repositioning Nigeria, Gov. Eno said the president has been making funding available to state governors, noting that he has not borrowed money to fund any of the projects he had so far executed in the state.

The first military administrator of Akwa Ibom, Col. Tunde Ogbeha, who spoke at the event, reminisced how the state he nurtured in 1987 had grown in leaps and bounds and commended successive governments and the people for their efforts in bringing the state to where it is now.

On their parts, the state chairmen of APC and PDP, Stephen Ntukekpo and Aniekan Akpan, commended the governor for maintaining peace and unity across party lines and promised to support him.
