Assent to bill establishing FMC Osogbo — Osun IPAC to President Tinubu

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Osun State chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has called on President Bola Tinubu to give assent to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Osogbo bill.

IPAC said this in a statement signed by its Chairman, Wale Adebayo and obtained on Sunday.

He noted that the bill was passed by the 9th National Assembly.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Ajibola Basiru in the 9th Assembly.

The IPAC chairman expressed concern that the absence of such a facility had deprived the state of a first class health care centre.

He said that FMCs were established nationwide in states to provide quality and cost effective tertiary health care services.

“This centres also provide timely clinical and other supportive services to patients within the jurisdiction in a milieu of qualitative research and training activities.

“Truth be told, the state is in desperate need of a medical centre to cater for the health of our people at a reasonable cost,” Adebayo said.

Adebayo maintained that the people of Osun were at receiving end of outrageous fees charged by proprietors of private hospitals in the state.

“Osun is the only state in the south west without a Federal Medical Centre.

“We call on the president Tinubu administration to consider the throngs of patients seeking medical attention in the state by signing the FMC bill for the benefit of residents of the state.”
