Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, has strongly condemned an alleged ambush staged by suspected Fulani militias along the Jol–Sho road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State which led to the killing of a middle-aged man identified as Sunday Darian.
The National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, in a statement condemned the attack, saying Darian, a resident of Jol community, and a female companion were returning from an occasion at Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Friday evening when they ran into the armed militia who opened fire on them.
Tengwong said Darian sustained severe gunshot wounds in the attack and was rushed to a hospital in Barkin Ladi where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel on Saturday.
Describing the killing of Darian as another tragic incident in the ongoing wave of insecurity plaguing rural communities in Riyom and surrounding areas, Tengwong said the attack is another indication that terrorists and bandits are still not willing to live in peace in local communities in the state despite efforts by the government and security agencies to maintain peace in Plateau State.
Part of the statement reads: “It is with a heavy heart that we report a fatal attack in Plateau State. An armed group, suspected to be Fulani militants, carried out an ambush today, Friday, 21st February 2026, along the Jol–Sho road.
“During the attack, Mr. Sunday Darian, a resident of Jol Community in Riyom LGA who was returning from an occasion at Barkin Ladi LGA with a female companion, was attacked. He sustained severe bullet wounds and was rushed to a hospital in Barkin Ladi but sadly, we lost him on Saturday.”
The BYM Secretary added that the incident has been reported to security operatives and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
