Constitution Amendment: Reps bow to pressure, rescind decision on gender bills

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The House of Representatives has bowed to pressure from Nigerian women on some of the constitutional amendment bills on gender.

Women groups have laid siege on the National Assembly, demanding it to rescind its decision on the five bills rejected during the voting on Constitution amendment bills.

The House on Monday resolved to change its stance after a motion moved by Hassan Fulata, the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business.

The bill to expand the scope of citizenship, criteria for indigenship and 35% affirmative action in political parties administration will now be revisited by the lawmakers.

The three bills will now be voted on by the House in a yet to be determined day.
