Africa-Press – Nigeria. A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 55-year-old man, Idris Yunusa, to seven years in prison without the option of a fine for the procurement and sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.
The judgment, delivered by Justice S.M. Shuaibu, marks a significant application of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015, which seeks to protect minors from abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.
Yunusa, a resident of Lamido Crescent in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, was found guilty of sexually exploiting the teenager who lives at Abuja Line in Badawa, also within Nassarawa.
Justice Shuaibu, while delivering the verdict, stressed the court’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of vulnerable individuals, especially minors.
He cited Section 16(1) of the Act under which the convict was charged, emphasizing that the law provides no leniency for those who prey on underaged victims.
