Africa-Press – Nigeria. A High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, has stopped Bashar Aliyu from calling himself the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
The court order, given by Justice Muhammad Gusau, also stops eight other people from acting as lawmakers or doing anything related to the work of the Assembly, at least for now.
The decision followed a case filed by the Zamfara State House of Assembly on June 23, 2025. In the case, the Assembly asked the court to stop what it called an illegal attempt by some people to take over its leadership.
Justice Gusau ruled that Bashar Aliyu, along with anyone working for him or acting on his behalf, must stop calling himself the Speaker or doing anything related to that position. He is hereby restrained in the interim from parading himself as the Speaker of the Applicant or assuming the functions of the Speaker of the Applicant, pending the hearing and determination of Motion No. ZMS/GS/M.228/2025.”
He also ordered that the 2nd to 9th respondents must not hold any meetings or make decisions aimed at choosing or supporting a different leadership for the House.
“The application succeeds and is hereby granted as prayed,” the judge added.
