Critics Can No Longer Complain About Gov Okpebholo

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Edo State Government has said that the critics of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration may complain for relevance, but they cannot fault the quality or scale of the infrastructural developmental projects of the governor in the past year in office.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Prince Kassim Afegbua, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Benin City.

Afegbua also asserted that the Governor, who was initially underrated by the opposition parties during the 2024 electioneering period, is now being commended for his accountability and promise-driven style of leadership.

He opined that, against expectations of critics, the Governor has since silenced sceptics with far-reaching developmental projects in the past year.

He posited that the questions at the moment in Edo State have shifted from capacity to curiosity about how the government is funding capital projects across the three senatorial districts.

The Commissioner said the projects ranged from school construction and rehabilitation, water supply, security infrastructure and agricultural support among others.

“Under the previous arrangement, EdoBEST consultants received N160 million monthly, even as many schools deteriorated. In contrast, Okpebholo has increased subventions to key tertiary institutions.

“Ambrose Alli University previously received N41million, now gets N500 million monthly, Edo University Uzairue which had received no state allocation before, now receives N250 million monthly.

“Public discourse across Edo has shifted from questions about his capacity to curiosity, about how he is funding the scale of infrastructural work currently ongoing.

“While opposition figures have criticised aspects of the administration’s agenda, the government maintains that the results on the ground speak for themselves,” he said.

He added that under the current administration of Monday Okpebholo, 60 new Primary Healthcare Centres have been completed across the three senatorial districts out of the 146 centres earmarked for construction.

He said the state government is not only building the PHCs but also equipping them to function effectively.
