Africa-Press – Nigeria. The lawmaker representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Victor Umeh, has made a case for the real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Thursday, Umeh said if in the 2023 general elections, all the results were uploaded successfully, it is still very much possible.

His remark came following the signing of the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law by President Bola Tinubu barely 24 hours after it was passed by the National Assembly.

Airing his own opinion on the development, the lawmaker said, “In the 2023 general elections, all the results were uploaded successfully. We have 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives.

“This election took place with the presidential election on the same day and 469 of us came to the National Assembly through electronically transmitted results to the INEC portal. We were able to achieve it in 2023, why should somebody in 2026 say that it is no longer possible?

“What has happened to the infrastructure with which those transmissions were done successfully in 2023. And 469 of us arrived in Abuja here through that process.

“So, somebody is trying to be economical with the truth to sustain sabotage because this is sabotage.”
