Africa-Press – Nigeria. The minister of education, Tunji Alausa has retracted his earlier statement that there was no agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) restating that the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement is still in effect and enforceable.
In a statement released on Friday, the minister explained that the 2009 agreement is still in effect and legally enforceable as at now.
The clarification came after his comments to journalists in Abuja on Thursday where he said ASUU’s position is just a draft and said there was no signed agreement, a statement which the union immediately rebutted.
The minister further stated that the 2009 and 2011 agreements which ASUU routinely reference were not formally signed, they were only recommendations made during negotiations.
