Africa-Press – Nigeria. Ekiti State Government has said that severe sanctions await owners of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles found plying the road in the state without appropriate registration documents and valid drivers licences in the coming year

Commissioner for Transportation Kehinde Ajobiewe, who handed down the warning in Ado-Ekiti, said the decision became necessary because of the threat posed by unregistered vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles to the safety of road users and the overall security within the state.

Citing instances of illicit activities associated with unregistered vehicles, he stated that trucks, cars, and motorcycles that are not roadworthy would no longer be permitted to ply the roads because of the danger they pose to other road users.

According to the commissioner, the enforcement exercise will commence early next year, adding that this will enhance sanity in the transportation sector.

Ajobiewe urged motorists and motorcyclists to renew their expired driving licences and vehicle particulars promptly to avoid unpleasant situations.

He amplified the Ekiti State Government’s unwavering commitments to improve road safety and ensure transport operators adhere strictly to the necessary regulations and highway codes.

The commissioner said the massive ongoing road intervention projects across the state are an indication that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is working by his six pillars of administration for the state’s development.
