Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Edo State House of Assembly has condemned the spate of kidnappings and incessant killings in the state, lamenting that farmers were the worst hit.

The House made the condemnation at plenary sitting on Monday in Benin City.

The House at the plenary, however, adopted a resolution calling on the state government and security agencies to take urgent steps to curb the menace of incessant kidnappings in Etsako East local government area and across the state.

The adoption of the resolution follows a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Etsako East Constituency, Hon.Kingsley Ugabi.

Ugabi, in the motion lamented that the increasing cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities in his constituency has stopped farmers from going to their farmlands.

According to him, farmers were worst hit in the face of the current trend of insecurity challenges posing a major threat to farming activities as many of them can no longer go to their farms for fear of attack.

“The current spate of kidnappings was already posing a major threat to food security in the country,” he said.

He, however, noted that urgent steps must be taken to curb the menace of kidnapping in the state.

Other lawmakers in their separate contributions expressed serious concerns over the high spate of insecurity in their constituencies arising from incessant kidnapping and armed robbery attacks

The House, however, called for the immediate and urgent intervention in addressing the trend of insecurity in the state.

It resolved that community policing should be strengthened along with other security measures to address the menace of kidnapping across the state.
