Africa-Press – Nigeria. Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Monday assured that Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State will never join those targeting Christians.
Akpabio said peace and stability would return to the state following Muftwang’s decision to officially join the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking in Jos during the official welcoming of the governor into APC, the Senate President said Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, will soon return to their homes.
He said the National Assembly would appropriate funds that would ensure that IDPs return to their homes soon.
According to Akpabio: “One thing I do know is that Senator Lalong and the National Chairman, particularly the pastor in Muftwang Caleb will never have joined a team that will target Christians. So I want to say, may the soul of all those who died due to insecurity in the past rest in perfect peace.
“I believe strongly that with this movement today, unity has returned to the plateau. I believe with this movement today, IDPs are returning to their homes very soon.
“So mine is to let you know that the National Assembly will do everything to appropriate the necessary funds to enable you to return your people who are in IDP camps back to their locations in their villages.”
Akpabio assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would ensure the safety of all Christians and Muslims.
He added: “This administration will do everything possible to protect all religions, to protect all Muslims, to protect all Christians.
“We will not allow anybody to be left behind. We will do all our best to provide the necessary funding for the president to close down all the IDP camps and allow our people to go back to the farms so that we can have surplus food at the end of 2026 and beyond 2027.”
