Ibese Residents Urge Ogun Government to Intervene

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Residents of Ibese in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State has called for the intervention of the state government over an alleged territorial rebranding of their land, and unlawful operations that misrepresent local geography.

They made the call in a peaceful protest, marching through streets of the town on Saturday.

The residents were armed with placards carrying different inscriptions such as “Stop False Territorial Claims,” “No to Encroachment,” “Ibese United Against Encroachment,” “ Our Land, Our Roght. Government Intervene Now!!” “Ibese United Against Encroachment” and “Frontier FM and Hotel Should Not Trespass Ibese.”

Addressing newsmen, the General Secretary of the Ibese Youth Association, Mr. Luqman Alagbe, stated that their grievances followed a false public broadcast of a radio station’s location as Ilaro despite operating on Ibese land.

Alagbe argued that it was not only false but also a strategic attempt to legitimize the ongoing land-grabbing agenda.

He noted that while it could permanently distort official records, digital maps, commercial listings, and public perception, it is a threat to Ibese’s historical and territorial integrity and has triggered widespread anger, in the land.

He said, “Ibese Community stands firm on the following facts: Frontier Hotel sits squarely on Ibese land and radio station operating within its premises is automatically operating on Ibese soil.

“The correct location is: Ibese, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. We have documentary, traditional, historical, and administrative proofs of our boundary.

“We urge the Ogun State Government, relevant ministries, security agencies and the boundary commission to stop the false territorial rebranding of Ibese Land, and prevent unlawful operations that misrepresent local geography.“

The residents warned that failing to address the rising tension could lead to avoidable communal unrest.

“The government should intervene before tension escalates and sanction any individual or institution promotion false claims.

“We honour authority and uphold peace, but we will not fold our arms while our ancestral identity is being erased,” they said.
