Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Rivers State Council of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, says it will not join the nationwide strike declared by its national body over the delayed implementation of the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, by the Federal Government, scheduled to commence on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Chairman of the Rivers State Council, Otaraku Jonathan-Oye, said in an interview that the decision to suspend participation in the strike was taken in recognition of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s approval of the payment of the adjusted Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, for doctors and the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, for other health workers, including the payment of outstanding arrears.
Jonathan-Oye further disclosed that the Governor also approved the immediate implementation of residency grants and skipping allowances for medical doctors, as well as accoutrement allowances for other health workers.
He, however, appealed to Governor Fubara to address other pending welfare issues, including “the newly approved retirement age of 65 years for health workers, payment of CONHESS review arrears, settlement of hazard allowance arrears, and harmonization of salaries for local government health workers with their counterparts at the state level.”
