Africa-Press – Nigeria. A Kaduna State High Court has convicted and sentenced Emmanuel Kachina, also known as “Johnny Depp,” to one year’s imprisonment for cybercrime and impersonation.

The conviction was secured on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Khobo Darius, sitting in Kaduna.

Kachina was arraigned on charges relating to cybercrime and impersonation, offences contrary to relevant provisions of Nigeria’s cybercrime laws. He pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting the court to proceed with sentencing.

Justice Darius consequently sentenced the defendant to one year’s imprisonment, underscoring the judiciary’s resolve to curb cyber-related offences and identity fraud.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and warned members of the public against engaging in internet fraud and impersonation, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
