Africa-PressNigeria. The Coalition and council of Ulama and Islamic organizations’ in Kano State has distanced itself from an announcement of purported impeachment of Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil as the State Chairman of the Council of Ulama, the highest religious body in the State.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the Council’s Secretary, Dr Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa, opined that the coalition was not involved in the decision that led to the purported ouster of Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, hence it is not in support of the move.

According to the Ulamas, the council has always sought to ensure peace and unity among the faithful of the Islamic religion, warning that such decisions are liable to truncating such good intentions.

It could be recall that some Muslim sects including Izala, Tijjaniyya and Kadiriyya, purportedly impeached Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil on Monday for allegedly politicizing religious affairs and criticizing Governor Ganduje’s administration over his alleged ambition to join governorship race.

They added that Islamic scholars that appended their signatures on the disclaimer include Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo, Khalifa Kariballah Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah, Professor Mohammad Babangida Mohammad, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Imam Nasiru Mohammad Adam and Dr. Bashir Mu’azzam mai Bushira.

In an interview with one of the clerics who refused to take side, he said it’s good for the Council members to take the path of peace and avoid anything that could jeopardize the peace, unity and equanimity amongst the Ulamas.
