Katsina: Customs seize cannabis, tramadol worth N720m

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Katsina Command, says it intercepted 174 wraps of cannabis sativa and 698,600 tablets of tramadol valued at N720 million between July 2024 and December 2025.

The command’s spokesperson, Bello Isah, disclosed this on Monday in Katsina during a briefing held at a send-off event for the outgoing controller, Idris Abba-Aji, who was recently promoted to assistant comptroller-general.

Isah said the seizures were made through routine operations across border routes in the state.

He said the tramadol tablets were confiscated over a 17-month period, while the cannabis was intercepted in separate operations.

According to him, the command also carried out a seven-day tour of border stations to assess security and strengthen cooperation with other agencies and host communities.

He added that Abba-Aji extended anti-smuggling awareness campaigns to secondary schools and tertiary institutions to educate students on the dangers of cross-border crimes.

Responding, Abba-Aji thanked officers of the command, the Katsina State Government and security agencies for their support during his tenure, and expressed confidence that the new controller, Tanko Dogara, would sustain ongoing operations.
