Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum has expressed concern over rising political rhetoric threatening the peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development in the state.
The forum, in a statement by Justice Mohammed Suleiman-Ambursa, its first Vice Chairman, observed that certain statements and activities could destabilize the existing peace and stability in the state.
Ambursa stated that the forum under the leadership of Maj-Gen. Mohammed Magoro, condemned incitement and praise singing of attacks on political figures, which could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
” The forum has observed some unhealthy political statements, incitement and praise singing of attacks on some political gladiators, which is inimical to peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development of the State, ” he noted.
They advised politicians and supporters to adhere to the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and regulations on political activities.
” The Kebbi Elders call on all political leaders to prevail on and prevent all their supporters and admirers from making any form of incitement and praise singing of attacks on any personality, which might lead to the breakdown of law and order.”
The Kebbi Elders also urged security agencies to enforce compliance with electoral laws and prosecute violators.
They further appealed to the public, social media, and conventional press to refrain from publicizing inciting statements or praise singing that could jeopardize peace in the state.
