Africa-Press – Nigeria. Four victims of a family of nine abducted by gunmen in Edo State have regained freedom after the payment of N15 million ransom.
DAILY POST gathered that the victims regained freedom on Monday, February 9, 2026, after spending eight days in captivity.
The nine family members were kidnapped on Monday, February 2, 2026, at about 5pm while returning from school.
The kidnapped victims included five school children, a nursing mother with her baby and two others.
The family was abducted between Eko-Abeku-Iyowa road within the Evboneka community along the Benin-Akure road.
While five victims were freed by the gunmen on the same day, four others, comprising school children were held captive by the kidnappers.
The gunmen demanded the sum of N260 million ransom from the family.
The release of the remaining four victims was disclosed by Mr Festus Bamidele, the father of the abductees.
Bamidele, said the family paid the sum of N15 million ransom and also spent N250,000 to buy undisclosed items for the abductors.
He said those released are his children, junior sister and a sister-in-law.
Bamidele, said his children were granted freedom alongside victims kidnapped at the Ukhunwmun community after the payment of different ransoms demanded by the abductors.
It was gathered that victims from the Ukhunwmun community were kidnapped on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at about 4pm.
The nine family members were kidnapped inside a Lexus 350 jeep driven by the nursing mother of a two-month-old baby.
One of the victims who spoke on condition of anonymity said the suspected kidnappers abducted them after shooting sporadically.
He added that one of his sisters, who was also a victim was hit on the face by a bullet from the gunmen.
