Africa-Press – Nigeria. The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has dismissed claims by a faction led by Rabiu Kwankwaso that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, are behind the party’s ongoing court cases.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, NNPP National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, said the legal battles and defections within the party are a direct result of Kwankwaso’s overbearing actions and his attempt to seize control of the party.
The party’s reaction comes in response to comments made by Elder Buba Galadima, who accused Tinubu and the APC of sponsoring the litigation to prevent the party from taking over the party.
Olaposi described these allegations as “lazy, empty blackmail”.
He added, “Was it Tinubu who made Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, attempt to hijack a party that gave him a free ticket to run? Kwankwaso and his group, who have been expelled, have continued to pursue court cases to take over the NNPP, causing defections among members.”
The NNPP spokesman urged members who left for other parties to return, stressing that the party remains a strong contender for the 2027 general elections.
“All elected members of the NNPP in 2023, who decamped due to the ongoing litigations, are encouraged to return and help rebuild our great party.
“The 2025 national convention in Lagos had resolved that loyalty would be rewarded with automatic tickets,” Olaposi said.
He emphasized that the party has begun e-registration of members in line with INEC guidelines for 2027, focusing on strengthening its human structure for electoral success.
“NNPP is a sister political party to all registered parties in Nigeria and remains committed to being a responsible partner for the nation’s progress.
“Our mission is not about fighting others for politics or power, which belongs to God, but to serve the people of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
