Kwara govt adopts multi-prong strategy to tackle security challenges

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Kwara State Government is tackling security challenges through comprehensive and multi-pronged approaches to curb the menace.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, disclosed this while welcoming participants of Senior Course 47 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, who are currently on a study tour of Kwara State.

Prof. Saba noted that while Kwara has long been regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, “it is not immune to the growing security threats affecting some parts of the country.”

He disclosed that the state government was proactively deploying a range of strategies to address the security challenges.

“Here in Kwara, while we have enjoyed relative peace and stability, we are not exempted from emerging threats such as rural banditry, farmer-herder clashes, youth restiveness, and the infiltration of criminal elements into peri-urban areas,” Saba stated.

The SSG explained that the state government’s approach to security included strengthening community policing, investing in surveillance technology, fostering inter-agency collaboration, and mobilizing grassroots intelligence through traditional institutions and local stakeholders.

Prof. Saba urged the visiting team to make full use of available resources to gather valuable data that could contribute to addressing security challenges not only in Kwara but across the country.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Yita, assured the delegation of the state government’s full support throughout their stay.

He noted that their presence offers a valuable opportunity for mutual learning, exchange of ideas, and a deeper appreciation of the strategic discipline the Nigerian Army is known for.

Responding, the team leader, Colonel U.H. Mohammed, stated that their mission was purely research-focused, with the hope that the team would have access to adequate data to enable them to develop actionable recommendations to enhance both state and national security.

He appreciated the state government for the warm reception extended to them since their arrival.
