The statement further noted that all five suspects had been referred to public prosecution for further legal action.
The incident has sparked conversations about the challenges faced by migrants in Libya and the increasing reports of arrests and legal issues involving foreign nationals.
This development comes on the heels of a recent report by DAILY POST, detailing the arrest of 22 Nigerians by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in connection with financially motivated sextortion schemes that have led to a rise in suicides among American teenagers.
The arrests were part of Operation Artemis, a coordinated global effort involving the FBI, the governments of Nigeria, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
FBI Director Kash Patel had said, “Operation Artemis exemplifies the FBI’s never-ending mission to protect our most vulnerable, and to pursue the heinous criminals harming our children — no matter where they hide.”
