Africa-Press – Nigeria. Coordinated air and ground offensives by the Nigerian military have inflicted heavy losses on Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram fighters in the Sambisa Forest and Mandara Mountains, forcing the insurgents into disarray and emergency burials of dozens of their fallen soldiers.

The counter-offensive came in response to Friday night’s gruesome ISWAP attack on Darajamal village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which left 60 civilians dead.

Residents told zagazola Makama, that the terrorists stormed Darajamal, firing indiscriminately before fleeing toward the forest. Their retreat was short-lived,as military Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft tracked their movements and directed precision airstrikes.

“The ISR platforms picked up multiple terrorist movements. The Air Component swiftly engaged them with devastating precision, instantly neutralising more than 30 fighters,” a top security source told Zagazola.

Ground troops mobilised from nearby Forward Operating Bases secured Darajamal shortly after the bombardments, restoring calm and providing reassurance to survivors.

In a follow-up mission, armed drones pounded terrorist hideouts and movement corridors in the Mandara Mountains, executing multiple strikes on at least four locations. Several commanders and fighters were killed, while survivors fled in disarray, abandoning weapons and the bodies of comrades.

Intelligence reports further revealed that the Ali Ngulde faction of Boko Haram, already weakened by sustained military pressure in the Sambisa axis, buried at least 47 corpses of slain fighters in hurried ceremonies across scattered locations.
