Africa-Press – Nigeria. Nigerian soldiers have killed 11 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during separate clashes in Borno and Adamawa states, the army said on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the first clash happened on September 15 when troops on patrol along the Baga–Cross Kauwa road in Kukawa, Borno State, were ambushed by insurgents who set off a bomb and opened fire.
The soldiers responded quickly, fought back with heavier firepower, and forced the terrorists to flee.
“The troops’ swift response forced the terrorists to retreat. Follow-up reports confirmed that eight terrorists were neutralised, including two Munzirs and one Qaid.
Eight of them were killed on the spot, including two field commanders known as Munzirs and another leader called Qaid.
“They were identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, an unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota, while several others sustained gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
In a separate encounter at Umbo village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, troops also killed more terrorists, bringing the total to 11.
The army said its men seized 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, several rounds of ammunition, anti-aircraft equipment, blankets, and different kinds of drugs during the operations.
