Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Kano Axis, has expressed its readiness to resist policies it says are worsening the economic hardship faced by Nigerian students and their families.

The association announced its full support for the nationwide protest called by the national leadership of NANS against the newly introduced tax policy.

Speaking on the decision, the Public Relations Officer of NANS, Kano Axis, Comrade Muddassir Hamza Dankaka, said students can no longer remain silent while policies that deepen suffering are imposed on the masses.

He described the new tax policy as unjust, anti-student, and economically oppressive.

“The tax policy is unjust, anti-student, and economically oppressive, especially at a time when students and their families are already battling rising living costs, tuition fees, and inadequate government support.

“The Kano Axis, under the leadership of Comrade Yunus Sulaiman Halliru, stands with the national body in demanding the immediate withdrawal of the policy in the interest of fairness, equity, and national development,” he said.

Dankaka noted that the planned protest would be peaceful, urging students across the country to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding throughout the exercise.

The association says it’s committed to defending the rights, interests, and welfare of Nigerian students.

The protest is scheduled to hold on January 14, 2026, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
