Africa-Press – Nigeria. A Televangelist in Akwa Ibom, Apostle John Okoriko, said only national repentance and personal decision to shun all forms of corruption and vices could salvage Nigeria from the myriads of challenges and security threats rocking it.

He added that though prayers are effective, the country does not necessarily need to dwell on it, rather strong willed leaders and citizens who would take a decisive stand to change the status quo for the better, saying,” God has given man the privilege to make decisions and take action, certain things cannot be solved by prayers but through action.”

Okoriko, who is the General Overseer of Solid Rock Kingdom Church stated this during the December edition of the church’s Monthly Interactive Service in Uyo with the theme “Why Does God Allow People to Believe a Strong Delusion?”

Fielding questions from online callers, the Cleric said national repentance was necessary in Nigeria to take away “strong delusion” associated with culture, religion, politics, economy and business which cut across all facets of life.

He insisted that Nigeria’s problems are surmountable but required strong will by the leaders. He said China was able to attain to its present height due to strong will by their leaders and individuals to advance the nation through science and technology.

His words, “National repentance is needed to change the bad delusion that draw us back in our national development. Developed nations don’t embrace false beliefs. They depend on science and technology for national development.

“Nigeria needs decisive leadership that will repent from old values and beliefs before we can embrace development, especially in science and technology, not in delusions that can take us to nowhere.”

The cleric noted that personal decisions play a major role in issues such as drug abuse and other forms of addiction, arguing that such habits persist only when individuals allow them go unchecked.

He dismissed the widespread African belief that addictions are always caused by demonic forces, insisting that personal choices are often the root even as he urged those battling with addiction to come to self realization that they would only ruin their lives through that process but should take a personal decision to come out of it.
