1. Two pregnant women and several other persons in Suntai village of Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State were abducted by suspected militias yesterday. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal confirmed the incident.
2. The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, yesterday, advised secession agitators that it would be cheaper to stay together as one country. The cleric gave the advice on Saturday while speaking virtually on this year’s ‘The Platform’, organized by Pastor Poju Oyemade of The Covenant Nation in Lagos.
3. The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, yesterday, expressed displeasure over the atrocities being perpetrated by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers across the country. He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fix Nigeria’s security challenges before it becomes too late.
4. Senate President, Ahmed Lawan on Saturday said the essence of a good government is the continued ability to improve the protection and welfare of the people. Lawan made the remark during his address at the 2021 May Day celebration yesterday in Abuja.
5. The police in Ogun State on Saturday arrested 11 Yoruba nation agitators protesting in Abeokuta. The state police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest, accused the agitators of launching unprovoked attacks on the security operatives.
6. The Tiv Youth Organisation, TYO, an umbrella body of all Tiv youths worldwide, yesterday, alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari was part of the Fulani’s agenda to take over Nigeria. The President-General of the group, Timothy Hembaor stated this in a statement while reacting to a comment by Garba Shehu against Governor Ortom.
7. Leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, called on Igbos to ignore claims by the presidency that Father Ejike Mbaka criticised the President because he was denied contracts but rather defend their brother. Kanu made this known in a post on his official Facebook page.
8. The president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, again hit hard on President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, saying the nation’s helmsman has failed woefully. He stated this on Saturday at a programme held at the auditorium of the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Garden of Victory, Ibadan.
9. The Federal Government yesterday assured members of organised labour that the national minimum wage could not be removed from the exclusive legislative list. Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige stated this while representing President Buhari at the 2021 May Day celebration.
10. The Senate has declared that nobody, group or organisation has approached the upper chamber of the National Assembly with any concrete evidence that could warrant the sack of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami. Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Dr Ajibola Basiru made the assertion yesterday in Abuja.
