Nine Bauchi travellers feared missing arrested by Army for profiling

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The authorities of Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, a multi-security task force maintaining peace in Plateau State, said some travellers from Bauchi travelling through Jos were arrested last week because of the security challenges in the state.

Nine travellers on motorcycles en route to Nasarawa State on Saturday in search of livelihoods were reportedly missing in Jos.

The travellers were found on Wednesday in the state.

However, the spokesperson of OPSH, Captain Oya James, said in a statement on Friday that on February 3, 2024, the day of a by-election in Plateau State, troops received calls from well-meaning citizens on the movement of a convoy of persons on motorcycles traversing Jos East.

Capt. James said, considering the prevailing security challenges, the nine motorcyclists were subsequently tracked and taken into protective custody for profiling.

“Following thorough profiling, the travellers were found to be innocent and were released to their family members in less than 48 hours after passing through the necessary security checks,” he said.

James, in the statement, affirmed that security operatives will not leave anything to chance and will explore legitimate means to track suspicious activities to avert any attempt to unleash mayhem on innocent civilians.
