NNPP cancels suspension of Kano chairman

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has lifted the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the move as illegal and ineffective.

In a statement released from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, the NNPP said some executives in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, acted in violation of the party’s constitution.

The statement was signed by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bamofin Ladipo Johnson. It said the NWC condemned the action “in the strongest terms,” explaining that ward officials do not have the power to suspend or remove a state chairman.

“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party condemns the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, stating that such action is misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” the statement said.

The party described the move by the Gargari Ward executives as a serious act of anti-party behaviour, adding that it violated the rules guiding discipline and leadership structure in the NNPP.

The NWC also praised Dungurawa’s leadership, calling him a committed and hardworking chairman who has helped the party grow in Kano State. It said his efforts have strengthened the NNPP’s structure and should not be weakened by what it described as “questionable actions” at the ward level.

The development comes amid growing internal tensions within the NNPP in Kano, with disagreements over party leadership and talks of possible political realignments ahead of future elections.

The party leadership urged members to follow the constitution, respect internal democratic processes, and avoid actions that could create division within the party.
