NYSC warns corps members against local politics

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has issued a stern warning to corps members against meddling in local politics during their service year.

The Director General of the corps, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, gave this warning while addressing corps members at the closing of the 2024 Batch ‘A Stream 1′ orientation programme in Sokoto on Wednesday.

Ahmed, who implored them not to meddle in local politics, stressed that the purpose of their posting is to positively impact the lives of their host communities, urging them to accept their posting in good faith.

The DG, who was represented by Sokoto State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Yaro, enjoined them to settle into their designated localities and contribute to their growth, discouraging them from pursuing redeployment.

“I urge you to respect the culture and traditions of your host community. Remain peaceful and resilient as you add value to the community you’re posted to. I’m sure many of you will choose to remain here after your service.

“Also take your security seriously. Take time to read the instructions in your manual and abide by them accordingly. Your security is our concern, but no one can secure you more than yourself,” he said.

He stressed the need to develop skills and encourage an entrepreneurial mindset inside the Scheme.

Ahmed urged corps members to seize the opportunity to become self-sufficient and become job and wealth creators after their service year.
